Built by Bickhardt Bau construction in a consortium, Grubental railway bridge has now been honored with the Ulrich Finsterwalder Prize for civil engineering 2015. The viaduct is one of three major arch bridges that was built by the ARGE Bogenbrücken Goldisthal in the course of the construction of the railway line Ebensfeld - Erfurt in the Thuringian Forest. Construction period: 2010 to end of 2013.
It was built for a new high-speed design as a semi-integral bridge. The viaduct spans a total length of 215 meters and has a prominent central aperture of 90 meters. The design of the engineering consultants Schlaich, Berger and Partner shows a clear structure, careful detail design and outstanding incorporation into their surroundings, said the jury in its verdict.
Since 1988 every two years Ernst & Sohn Publishing awards the civil engineering prize for outstanding achievements in structural engineering. From this year on, the award bears the name of Ulrich Finsterwalder, visionary of concrete construction.
