Neufahrner Kurve

Take off for better Airport link

Until autumn of 2018 Bickhardt Bau will build a 2.3-kilometer double track electrified railway line in a joint venture. The connection between the line Regensburg - Landshut - Munich and the S-Bahn line Neufahrn - Munich airport is built on an embankment. 110,000 cubic meters of soil have to be filled up to 12 meters above ground level in a width of 46 meters. Moreover what makes this project a special one are several railway brigdes, access ramps and intersections, that have to be constructed.

With the Neufahrner Kurve, the rail network will be further expanded. The rapidly growing region of Munich needs this mobility, said Transport Minister Dobrindt. His Bavarian counterpart Herrmann called the project "a milestone." With the new connection the travel time from Regensburg to the airport will be shortened to 67 minutes. Currently, passengers from that area have to take the bus from Freising to the airport. With the timetable change in December 2018, the route will go into operation. The construction of the Neufahrner curve is part of the planned Erdinger ring closure.
